Day 3 - Who Tells Your Story?

Our theme for this Convention was "Who Tells Your Story."  As an example, they told and illustrated the story of the beginnings of Close to My Heart as D.O.T.S (Dozens of Terrific Stamps) in the early 90's.  Back then, our CEO and founder, Jeanette, would be drawing stamp designs in her kitchen late into the night.  With extensive experience in Tupperware and Avon due to her mother's ventures, the living room party model was what felt the most natural to her and her business was off!  As more ladies saw and fell in love with her rubber stamps...she soon realized the need to add such things as pretty papers and embellishments and built an entire collection of inks, cardstock and all the basics.

As part of the story, they brought out art from every catalog from the beginning.  It was so special to see images and layouts from catalogs in the early days and artwork I remembered from Idea Books since 2009 when I became a Consultant.  It was hard to resist touching each beautiful layout and card.

Here is a layout from July 2003 - it's so simple and classic!  I just love it!  Remember when we added eyelets to our layouts?  I miss eyelets.  Although, I'm sure I still have some in my stash!

And, the very first CTMH catalog I ever held contained my favorite paper pack in the whole world - Stylin.'  I will forever love the combinations of pink, black and white...including a lovely PLAID.  I love plaid.

Jack is a paper pack coming up in August and it has several plaids...in my next favorite color combo - red, black and white!

Today was a busy day - lots of business classes.  I learned more about Facebook and using Persnickety to print my photos (goodness, I need to print some photos!).   I am considering looking into thinking about the possibility of trying out Facebook.   I'm also wondering if it is nearly time to give up the resistance and see if I should try a Smart Phone.  I am a little jealous of how easy it was for everyone who already have their camera everywhere they go and have all those apps to play with and edit them so quickly.

Today was Canada Day - Canada turned 150 years old today.
Strangely, although this was such an important holiday for our neighbors, they attended Convention this year in record numbers!  They were so excited and all gathered this morning for photos and to sing their national anthem.  I don't know if you can see, but they were waving little Canada flags all day, had outfits ranging from a red t-shirt to fun hats and wobbly ears to all-out red and white outfits with maple leaves!  Go Canada!

We also had about 15 ladies who traveled all the way from Australia and New Zealand.  Today was their 4-year anniversary with Close to My Heart.  They are also having a great time!

Well, it's time for sleeping...it's been a long day and I gotta fly early in the morning.

Have a happy day!

Day 2 - Art Extravaganza!

Short and sweet today because I have a 5K tomorrow morning at 0500.  Ug.  But, Zumba has been super fun the last couple days - I love that they have exercise options for us...especially since we have to sit most of the day.

Today we got to see a bunch of art using the new products and tools.  Ah. Ma. Zing!  I can't wait to scraplift their great ideas to share with you!!

Here's ONE sneak peek photo:  new Cricut images from the Idea Book

Okay, here is a piece of artwork from an amazingly talented Consultant using the new Cricut Cartridge.  Beautiful, right?!?

Speaking of new products and tools, here's a small list of items coming in August:
- 12 x 12 Vellum - finally!
- Gold and Silver foil paper - gorgeous!
- More Thin Cut options!
- An alphabet thin cuts...soooo usable!
- More pieces for the Workspace Wonder...including an ink pad rotating tower option!!  I am SO getting that!  Plus a cubbie that can hold ribbons or Shimmer Trim!!
- The cutest Operation Smile stamp set EVER!
- Pearls!
- A new travel-themed Cricut Cartridge!!!

I'll be dreaming with new visions of card and scrapbooking designs tonight - I can't wait to get home and get back to my craft room!!

Have a great day!

Day 1 - Visit the Home Office!

Oh, my - what a busy day!  Mom and I took a picture before heading into General Session.  How fun - a heart made of balloons!

We are sitting and getting all kinds of new info - including your sneak peek of the new Annual Idea Book!!!  (Mom says hi!)  I can't wait to give you your copy in August!  I'll have some fun projects in August to supplement the Jack Workshop Your Way, too.

Here's a secret - the basic palette (browns and greys) are getting a revamp this year and Colonial White is going away.  If you need any particular colors...get them now!!

Here are the new color names:  Charcoal, Pewter, Pebble, Linen, Mink, Heather, Espresso, Nutmeg, Toffee and Almond.  All the brown ones sound yummy!

Then, we took a trip to the Home Office!  How cute is my little ticket to the Home Office tour?  Check out the cool mission message on the wall in the entry way.  I love all the different fonts and sizes.  :o)

Here is the Art Studio, where they do all the art work in the Idea Books, specials and workshops!
I love the message displayed where each artist can see it.
Ha ha!  Each artists desk was soooo clean - it was obviously staged!  Every desk was clean and perfectly organized!!  Ya, right!  The manager admitted that they don't normally look like this - and most leave their in-progress projects out when they leave for the day...just like we do!

Fun Fact:  about 80% of the employees are female - and it seemed like there was a bathroom every time we turned a corner!  Goodness sakes, the building wasn't THAT big!

They even decorated the grass with 12" hearts to welcome us!

Have a happy day!

Team Meeting

Today was Team Meeting day!  We had 58 team members show up to our Convention this year - easily 20 more than usual.  I think the enticement of having Convention at the Home Office this year was too much to pass up!  I know I can't wait for MY tour of the factory...

Here's Mom & Me the team meeting.  Michelle always has fun things to take photos of.  :o)

The blond in this photo is my upline, Cindy.  Do you know Rita?  Rita signed up under Cindy and I signed up under Rita.  But, Rita left CTMH and now I'm under Cindy.  My up-up-upline is Michelle, the brunette.  Her upline is the Home Office - wow!

My up-up-upline joined CTMH in 1993, so my team meeting assignment was to do (2) 6x8 layouts for our Convention yearbook that said what we were doing that year.  Here is my version of 1993.  I'll show you my finished yearbook in August!  I also plan to do a layout of 2009 - the year I joined CTMH.

Guess what?!?  I won the award for #1 Operation Smile donations - thank you so much for your help!  From June to May this year we donated enough to fix 1.2 smiles!  That is AWESOME!

Woot woot!  Tomorrow is a BIG day - I can't wait to hear about all the new things we can see is our new Annual Idea Book (the fat one).  Also, I have never used the words woot woot before.  New things are so fun!  But, now it's time for bed.  Got Zumba at 0630 tomorrow!

Have a happy day!

Heading to Salt Lake City!

Okay, so it's already time for CONVENTION again!!  I flew to Portland this morning to pick up my mom.  We landed in Salt Lake City this afternoon and I am so excited for tomorrow!

We're all checked into the hotel and this is the view from the window - it's pretty.  I didn't know SLC was completely surrounded by mountains.  Anyway, we found a little mall that is nearly attached to our hotel, had dinner at Cheesecake Factory and went to the grocery store down the street to stock up on breakfast items.

Have a happy day!
